X Abstract

The adiabatic elastic constants ( C ij ) of cristobalite have been evaluated successfully over the temperature range of 300â1800 K using the molecular-dynamics method with a fluctuation formula. Cristobalite shows a negative Poisson ratio over this temperature range. However; the mechanisms differ between the α and β phases. In the cubic β phase; C 44 exhibits a value extremely close to C 11 rather than C 12 ; in contrast to the Cauchy relation. This predicts a remarkable property that the longitudinal and transverse velocities coincide for the acoustic waves propagating along the [100] direction.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
