X Abstract

The aim of this research is to look for a theoretical basis for the observed behavior of users organizing their digital documents. Participants (academics who do not work as classifiers or indexers) are asked to categorize their documents while describing their thought processes. Interviews are used to add additional data, and subjects' file structures are examined. Analysis may show the influence of situational context on categorization behavior.
